Is Hame Scan really free?
Yes. No price, no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription and no account. No page limits and no watermarks. Every feature is in the free app.
Do I need an account or the internet?
No account, ever. Scanning, reading text, editing and exporting all work offline. You only need the internet for iCloud sync, sharing through iCloud and translation.
Where are my documents stored?
On your iPhone. If you turn on iCloud sync in Settings, a copy goes to your own iCloud so your documents are on all your devices. Hame has no servers, so we never see them. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I move my documents to a new iPhone?
Turn on iCloud sync in Settings on your old iPhone and give it time to finish. On the new iPhone, sign in to the same Apple Account, install Hame Scan and choose "Used Hame Scan before? Bring back my documents" at the start of setup.
Which languages can it read?
The languages Apple's built-in text recognition supports on your iPhone, such as English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, and more on newer iOS versions. Hame Scan finds the language by itself, or you can choose languages in Settings.
How do I hide private details?
Open a page and use Hide details. Hame Scan suggests numbers, emails, addresses and dates, and you can cover any area by hand. Hidden areas are covered in exported PDFs and images, and their words are removed from the PDF's text. For now, Word, Excel, text and Markdown exports and copied text still include the hidden words, so share a PDF or an image when you've hidden something.
How do I lock a document?
Open the document's menu and lock it, or lock a whole folder, or the whole app in Settings. Locked items open only with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
Can I protect a PDF with a password?
Yes, when you export a PDF. The password isn't saved anywhere, so keep it safe: if you forget it, we can't recover it. Treat it as a lock against casual opening, not as strong encryption for very sensitive files. Hame Scan can't import password-protected PDFs.
How do I sign a document?
Draw a signature or photograph one you signed on paper, and Hame Scan removes the background. Then place it on any page, and resize or recolor it.
How do I share a document so someone else can sign it?
Use Share with people. They get an iCloud invite; if you allow it, they can sign and send a signed copy back to you. Tap Stop sharing when you're done.
I deleted a document by mistake.
Look in Recently Deleted. Deleted documents stay there for 30 days, and you can bring them back.
How do I save every scan to a folder automatically?
Turn on Auto-save in Settings and choose a folder in Files. Hame Scan saves each document there as a PDF.
