In short: Hame Scan doesn't collect your data. There's no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and Hame has no servers. Your scans, their text and your signatures stay on your iPhone. They go to your own iCloud only if you turn on sync, and to other people only when you share them.
Who we are
Hame Scan is one of the Hame apps, made by Inja. In this policy, "we" means the people who make Hame. This policy covers the Hame Scan app for iPhone.
What we collect
Nothing. We don't receive your documents, their text, your signatures or anything about how you use the app. There's no Hame account and no Hame server to send them to. The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no code from other companies.
If you choose to share crash reports with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports. They contain technical details about the crash, not your documents.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you make in Hame Scan is saved in the app on your iPhone:
- your documents: the photos of each page, the cleaned-up pages, and their names, notes, markup, folders and tags
- the text read from your pages, and any corrections you make
- your saved signatures
- the history of QR codes and barcodes you scan, until you clear it
- your settings, including your last few searches
Reading the text on your pages, finding page edges, hiding details and every other tool all run on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded to do it.
If you use iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a computer), your library is part of those backups, like any other app's data.
iCloud sync (off unless you turn it on)
iCloud sync is off until you turn it on in Settings, or choose "Bring back my documents" when you set up the app. When it's on, Hame Scan keeps a copy of your whole library in your own private iCloud database, so it's on all your devices: documents (including locked and recently deleted ones), page photos, text, notes, folders, tags, signatures and your code history.
- Encrypted. Your library is encrypted on your iPhone before it's uploaded, and stored that way. If you turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, only your devices hold the keys, so not even Apple can read it.
- Yours, not ours. The copy is in your iCloud account, under Apple's terms. We have no access to it.
- Turning sync off stops changes from reaching iCloud. It doesn't delete the copy already there; see Deleting your data.
Sharing with people
"Share with people" sends a document to people you choose through Apple's iCloud sharing. You don't need sync turned on to use it.
- Hame Scan puts a PDF of the document, its name, a small preview of the first page and your note in a shared space in your iCloud. Only the people you invite can open it, unless you choose to let anyone with the link open it.
- If you allow it, the people you share with can sign the document and send a signed copy back. That copy is saved in the same shared space, with the name on their Apple Account.
- To stop sharing, open the document and tap Stop sharing. This deletes the shared space, including any signed copies sent back. Deleting a document doesn't stop sharing it, so stop sharing first.
- People you've shared with may have saved their own copy. We can't remove those, and neither can the app.
Exporting and sending
Documents leave Hame Scan only when you send them: through the share sheet, Save to Files, Print, Save to Photos or Share with people. After that, they're in the hands of the app or person you sent them to.
Some settings send copies for you, and only once you turn them on:
- Auto-save saves every document as a PDF to a folder you choose, including locked documents.
- Also save scans to Photos saves each new camera scan to your photo library.
Exported PDFs and Office files include the document's name as their title and "Hame Scan" as the app that made them.
Photos you import keep the details already inside them, which can include when and where they were taken. Those details can stay in the pages you export. Scans taken with the Hame Scan camera don't include a location.
Locking
You can lock the app, a folder or a document with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. Locking stops anyone from opening them in Hame Scan without unlocking, hides the app's screen in the app switcher, and gives a locked document's page images iOS's strongest file protection.
Some things still show the name of a locked document: reminders you set for it, and the document list in Shortcuts. Widgets show "Locked document" instead of its name and preview, and only a count when the whole app is locked.
Widgets, Siri and Shortcuts
- Widgets show the names, page counts and small previews of up to six recent documents. Locked documents are hidden, as above.
- Siri and Shortcuts can start a scan, search, or open a document you pick. When you pick a document there, Shortcuts sees its name.
- Reminders you set on a document are scheduled on your iPhone; nothing is sent from a server.
When the app uses the internet
Hame Scan has no servers, so it never sends anything to us. It connects only to Apple, and to links you choose to open:
- to check whether your iPhone is signed in to iCloud (no documents are sent)
- to sync your library with your own iCloud, if you turn sync on
- to share documents, and to open documents shared with you, when you ask
- Apple may download language files when you translate text, and the files that power search by meaning
- links you tap: a link read from a QR code, our website, or the App Store page to rate the app
Everything else works offline.
AI
Hame Scan has no AI features today. Text reading and the other tools use Apple's built-in on-device technology, not AI chatbots. If we add an AI feature, we'll update this policy first and explain where it runs.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To scan documents and codes | When you first scan |
| Photos (add only) | To save pages to your photo library | Only when you ask to save to Photos |
| Face ID | To open what you lock | When you lock or unlock |
| Notifications | To show reminders you set on a document | When you set your first reminder |
To import photos, Hame Scan uses Apple's photo picker, so it sees only the photos you pick. Saving a business card opens Apple's new-contact card, so Hame Scan never reads your contacts. Hame Scan never asks for your location, microphone or health data, and never asks to track you.
Deleting your data
- A document: delete it and it moves to Recently Deleted, where it stays for 30 days so you can bring it back. After that it's removed for good. To remove it sooner, use Delete Now in Recently Deleted, or Empty Recently Deleted in Settings, Your data.
- Signatures, code history and other items: delete them in Settings.
- With sync on, deletions also reach your iCloud and your other devices. With sync off, they don't.
- Your iCloud copy: to remove it, open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, then the storage list, choose Hame Scan and delete its data.
- Deleting the app removes everything on your iPhone. It doesn't remove your iCloud copy or any shared documents, so stop sharing first, and delete the iCloud copy as above if you want it gone.
We can't delete your data for you, because we never have it.
Children
We don't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Hame Scan works without an account and without sending anything to us.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes how it handles data, we'll update this page before the change reaches you, and change the date at the top.
